Winter Anime Picks

Happy New Year!

It’s 2024, and that means there’s a new anime season! This winter season lineup looks great, there are a lot of new interesting anime and returning anime I’ve watched in previous years. Looking forward to it as always.

Here are my picks for the Winter 2024 season:

Solo Leveling

Airs January 6 on Crunchyroll

I love Solo Leveling! It is one of my favorite webcomics and I’m glad it is getting animated. The comic has really good action scenes I hope they do the series justice.

Synopsis (Yen Press)
E-class hunter Jinwoo Sung is the weakest of them all. Looked down on by everyone, he has no money, no abilities to speak of, and no other job prospects. So when his party finds a hidden dungeon, he’s determined to use this chance to change his life for the better… but the opportunity he finds is a bit different from what he had in mind!

A Sign of Affection

Airs January 6 on Crunchyroll

I love romance anime, and I’m looking forward to this one! Most of the anime I watch are action shonen/seinen and I’m ready for a change of pace this season. The main characters are in college and I like to see older characters in anime; I find this similar to the Ice Guy and his Cool Female Colleague I watched last winter.

Synopsis (Konansha)
Yuki is a typical college student, whose world revolves around her friends, social media, and the latest sales. But when a chance encounter on a train leads to her meeting friend-of-a-friend and fellow student Itsuomi-san, her world starts to widen. But even though Itsuomi-kun can speak three languages, sign language isn’t one of them. Can the two learn to communicate the budding feelings between them?

Mashle Magic and Muscles Season 2

Airs January 6 on Crunchyroll

Mashle is back! I really enjoyed the first season. This show is so ridiculous and wholesome at the same time, I love it. Looking forward to the next arc, I really don’t know what to expect.
Watch me and my sisters remake the ending theme of Season 1 in cosplay here!

Synopsis (Viz)

Can muscles crush magic?! In the magic realm, magic is everything—everyone can use it, and one’s social status is determined by their skill level. Deep in the forest, oblivious to the ways of the world, lives Mash. Thanks to his daily training, he’s become a fitness god, but he harbors a secret that could turn his life upside down—he can’t use magic! When he’s found out, rather than his life being over, he’s unexpectedly enrolled in magic school, where he must beat the competition! Mash just wants to live in peace with his father in the forest. But the only way he’ll ever be accepted in the magic realm is by attending magic school and becoming a Divine Visionary—an exceptional student revered as one of God’s chosen. But without an ounce of magic to his name, Mash will have to punch his way to the top spot.

Delicious in Dungeon

Airs January 4th on Netflix

I love food and I’m genuinely interested in what you can eat in the Dungeon! Food anime are usually hits, so I don’t want to miss this.

Synopsis (Yen Press)

What do you get when you cross dungeon adventures and food manga? You get Delicious in Dungeon, where we find our troupe of adventurers on a mission to save their lost team member while figuring out how to survive on the food that the dungeon provides. When young adventurer Laios and his company are attacked and soundly thrashed by a dragon deep in a dungeon, the party loses all its money and provisions. They’re eager to get right back to it, but there’s just one problem: if they set out with no food or coin to speak of, they’re sure to eat it on the way! But Laios comes up with a brilliant idea: “Let’s eat the monsters!” Slimes, basilisks, mimics, and even dragons…none are safe from the appetites of these dungeon-crawling gourmands!

Classroom of the Elite Season 3

Airs January 3rd on Crunchyroll

I really enjoy this show, it is very mysterious and intriguing. Teens can be scary, especially the ones at this school. There’s still not a lot we know about Ayanokouji and I can’t wait to learn more.

Synopsis (Crunchyroll)

Ayanokouji Kiyotaka has just enrolled at Tokyo Koudo Ikusei Senior High School, where it’s said that 100% of students go on to college or find employment. But he ends up in Class 1-D, which is full of all the school’s problem children. What’s more, every month, the school awards students points with a cash value of 100,000 yen, and the classes employ a laissez-faire policy in which talking, sleeping, and even sabotage are permitted during class. But among all the students who lead such self-indulgent lives, there is one who disagrees with it all and chooses to remain solitary, avoiding contact with others: the beautiful Horikita Suzune. She has figured out that, even though the school gives students huge amounts of money, it also offers many means of “assistance for students with no money.” One month later, Ayanokouji, Horikita, and the students of Class D learn the truth of the system in place within their school…
