Summer Anime Picks

We’re already half way through the year! The Spring anime season was STACKED and I’m sad to see some go, but I’m ready to for fresh new anime! This Summer season doesn’t seem to be as spectacular, like summer seasons usually are, but I may be wrong. I do want to watch less new anime (and finally catch up to Bleach!) this season so this may be a good thing for me! I’ll also be attending Anime Expo in LA from July 1 – 4th and I’ll have the opportunity to see some premieres!

Here are my picks for the Summer 2023 season:

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2

Airs July 6 (crunchyroll?)

Jujutsu Kaisen is finally back after 2 years! The trailer looks amazing and MPPA will not disappoint. I am very excited for its return and can’t wait to see the next arcs animated. I am caught up to the manga, and A lot of pain is coming up and I’m not sure if I’m ready to relive it all. Looking forward to seeing Gogo’s and Geto’s high school days and the tragedies of the Shibuya incident. I mostly looking forward to more Itadori, Megumu, and Nobara action!

Synopsis (Viz)

Although Yuji Itadori looks like your average teenager, his immense physical strength is something to behold! Every sports club wants him to join, but Itadori would rather hang out with the school outcasts in the Occult Research Club. One day, the club manages to get their hands on a sealed cursed object. Little do they know the terror they’ll unleash when they break the seal…

My Happy Marriage

Airs July 5th on Netflix

I love a romantic and dramatic story with supernatural elements! I see good kind vibes coming from the main man and a lot of family drama coming. I look forward to see where this story goes!

Synopsis (Square Enix)

A browbeaten and mistreated daughter is cast out of her family home and sent to audition as a bridal candidate for the heir to one of the most powerful families in the land. Considered nigh worthless for having failed to inherit the superhuman powers of the bloodlines into which she was born, Miyo Saimori lives her days unwanted and unloved. She is treated as a servant by her half-sister who, unlike Miyo, is blessed with unusual powers, while her step-mother and very own father have little time or love for their eldest daughter. Ultimately seen as nothing more than a nuisance and a drain on the family wealth, Miyo is packed off to the Kudo house as a bridal candidate for its heir, Kyoka Kudo. But whispers abound about the Kudo clan, the most powerful in all the land. Still, will the allegedly cold and cruel house into which Miyo aims to marry prove much warmer than the family she left behind?

Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon

Airs July 5th on Crunchyroll

Who knew anime could get any weirder. I want to watch more isekies, and I couldn’t pass up this opportunity. It has a hilarious premise and I can’t wait to laugh at the absurdity of it all. I really do want to see how a vending machine can rise up in this fantasy land…

Synopsis (Yen Press)

After dying in a traffic accident, I find myself standing near an unfamiliar lake. My body won’t move, I can’t hear my voice, and when I try to shout in confusion, words that I never expected come out! I-it seems I’ve turned into a vending machine… How am I going to survive some fantasy world’s dungeon like this?!

Fate/Strange Fake: Whispers of Dawn

Airs in July on Crunchyroll

I love the Fate Series and this looks like a promising spin off! The sneak peak looks amazing and I’m ready to see the Holy Grail War take place in America. I’m mostly excited to see more Gilgamesh! I hope to catch the premier at Anime Expo!

Synopsis (Fate/Strange Fake Official Website)

In a Holy Grail War, Mages (Masters) and their Heroic Spirits (Servants)fight for the control of the Holy Grail—an omnipotent wish-granting device said to fulfill any desire.

Years have passed since the end of the Fifth Holy Grail War in Japan. Now, signs portend the emergence of a new Holy Grail in the western American city of Snowfield.Sure enough, Masters and Servants begin to gather…

A missing Servant class…

Impossible Servant summonings…

A nation shrouded in secrecy…

And a city created as a battleground. In the face of such irregularities, the Holy Grail War is twisted and driven into the depth of madness.

Let the curtain rise on a masquerade of humans and heroes, made to dance upon the stage of a false Holy Grail.

ZOM 100

Airs July 9 on Hulu

I love comedic zombie stories so I’m looking forward to this! I love the irony of the story, the main character decides to live life as he wants, while the world is ending with a zombie apocalypse LOL. I look forward to him completing his bucket list while trying to avoid zombies.

Synopsis (Viz)

Surviving a zombie apocalypse beats being a wage slave any day! After spending years slaving away for a soul-crushing company, Akira’s life has lost its luster. He lives in a trash-filled apartment, his pay is abysmal, and he can’t even muster up the nerve to confess his love to his beautiful co-worker. But when a zombie apocalypse ravages his town, it gives him the push he needs to live for himself. Now Akira’s on a mission to complete all 100 items on his bucket list before he…well, kicks the bucket.
